respira con la marea
breathe with the tide
The Mediterranean Sea connects us with the coasts of Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon - its waves and tides forming part of an intricate web of relations. Respira con la marea, a performance inspired by the work of Etel Adnan, explores human ontological boundaries and invites us to listen for the beyond-human possibilities of kinship, connection, and affinity.
The theme of water and the sea appears often in Adnan’s writing; born in Lebanon, she carried the Mediterranean within her words and vision. In our performance, we sing and move with the sea, its stones, its sand, its breath, seeking spaces of healing and connection, embracing both mourning and life-affirmation.
The performance includes a phrase from the poem Falastini Ana by Palestinian poet Farah Chamma, a reminder of belonging and resistance carried on the tides.
Performance by Agnieszka Bułacik with Maria Oblicka, Agnieszka Róż, water and stones from the Mediterranean Sea, hydrophone.
