Lullabies for Anthropocene

Lullabies for the Anthropocene began as an artistic response to Facing Human Wrongs course, which was a part of a residency organised by Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures Collective and curated by Dani d’Emilia. It sonic ritual to compost human exceptionalism is a sound performance that invites us to deepen our practices of letting go and dreaming. It is a space for collective listening, letting go of modern colonial addictions, fears and desires, and inviting new dreams to be dreamed through us, with the land and with the songs. Learning with death doulas who use songs to create a safe space to let go, the performance invites us to hospice human exceptionalism and human supremacy. It experiments with the idea of relinquishing entitlements and fears of insignificance. Given that the foundation of colonial modernity is the separation of human beings from the living world, it seeks to reconnect us to the wider metabolism of planet Earth and attune us to its rhythms, working with sounds, folk songs and dreams.
